XTronica Roll Damping System is a technology designed to reduce the lateral rolling motion of a vessel, aiming to enhance its stability and comfort. By controlling the system’s respective components, the system mitigates the vessel’s rolling response to waves, improving the experience of crew and passengers while reducing discomfort and the risk of maritime incidents.
The ship roll damping system primarily exists in two main forms: active and passive ship roll dampingsystems. XT-RDSP is passive anti rolling (roll damping) system from Xtronica AS.
Passive roll damping system uses inertial devices such as anti-roll tanks or pools with specific design matches to the vessel, using, hydrodynamic characteristics of seawater to reduce lateral vessel rolling. By allowing the vessel’s natural sway motion to direct water into the anti-roll tanks or pools, an opposing force is generated to dampen rolling.
The U-shaped anti-rolling tank is equipped with several connecting pipes at the top of both sides tanks. Pneumatic remote-controlled valves are installed on each connecting pipe to control the airflow rate at the top of both side tanks. By utilizing the imbalance in air pressure at the top of both side tanks to regulate the water level fluctuation, the damping and natural response period of the U-shaped tank are controlled and adjusted.
The XT-RDs anti-rolling system will display the operation interface for all the passive anti-rolling tanks simultaneously.
The XT-RDS will utilize state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to record and learn from the roll data and anti-roll parameters (roll period, roll angle, phase difference) generated during the actual operation of the vessel, and directly apply optimized data to subsequent control logic. This enables continuous and rapid decision-making and optimization of anti-roll effects based on actual operating conditions.
Powered by extensive hydro dynamic CFD analysis by our hydro dynamic CFD specialist holding advanced(Master and Ph. D) degree with the major, Xtronica AS’s roll damping system design/configuration involves with early design stage of the vessel to assure the most optimized size and arrangement of the roll damping tanks for the vessel. The inside damping plates layout and pass through cutouts are configured to balance the reduced RA0 for both effective roll damping during resonant wave period as well as not significant increase in RAO for wave period away from resonant period and also avoid excessive sloshing to generate extreme noisy especially for roll damping tanks arranged underneath super structure.
